AMBASSADOR LAURI BAMBUS
AMBASSADOR LAURI BAMBUS, Estonia, Mr Lauri Bambus arrived in London in August to take up his new post as Estonia's Ambassador in the UK. His family will join him next year: “I am dedicating this year to focusing on work and establishing good contacts.” Mr Bambus is also keen to make the most of his time in London – “there are a lot of interesting events going on, and I have to be ready to be at seminars, conferences, receptions, concerts and exhibitions– now is not the time to sleep!”
Mr Bambus began his career in the Consular department of Estonia’s Foreign Service. Postings in Poland, Belgium and St Petersburg followed, before he became Director General of the Consular Department (2007-10) and Undersecretary for Legal and Consular Affairs (2010-14). “I am happy and privileged to have worked in the Consular field. It helps you to understand people, representatives of business, culture, science etc. and become comfortable talking to other countries.” Another of his big passions is justice and legal affairs in general and “also the linguistic approach,” for example how different parties work with wording, rephrasing of documents, etc.
